Worn In, Not Worn Out: How My Essentials Hoodie & Tracksuit Became My Everyday Uniform

There are a few things in my wardrobe I didn’t expect to become essentials — excuse the pun — but somehow, over the past year, the Essentials Hoodie and Essentials Tracksuit have crept into nearly every part of my week.
This isn’t a sponsored post. No one’s paying me to say any of this. I just realised, the other day while doing laundry in Brisbane, that I’d worn that same grey hoodie four times that week — out for a walk, to Coles, on a Zoom call, and to dinner at my cousin’s house. It wasn’t planned. It just worked.
It Started on a Windy Day in Melbourne
My introduction to the Essentials Hoodie was a pure accident. I was in Melbourne, wandering down Swanston Street, and the wind hit me like it usually does down there — sharp and sudden. I ducked into a store just looking for something warm. Ended up walking out with the comfiest hoodie I’d worn in years.
Not bulky, not too light — it sat on the shoulders just right and had that worn-in softness even though it was brand new. I wore it that whole trip and ended up travelling back home to Adelaide in it. Been wearing it ever since.
The Tracksuit That Actually Looks Put-Together
Now, onto the pants. The Essentials Tracksuit pants are where the magic really kicked in. For years, I avoided trackies outside the house. I didn’t like looking underdressed, even just ducking out for takeaway.
But these? They hit differently.
Slim cut, tapered ankles, enough room to move around in — but somehow still neat enough that I’ve worn them into the city, to the airport, even to a casual lunch spot near the Gold Coast waterfront. It’s the rare kind of outfit where you don’t look like you’re trying, but people still ask, “Where’d you get those?”

Fits Our Lifestyle, Our Weather
Australia isn’t just one vibe. Hobart mornings are freezing. Perth evenings can drop quickly. Sydney might be warm and breezy by 3pm, but icy at 7. The reason this hoodie-tracksuit combo works here is that it adapts. I throw the hoodie on in the morning, tie it around my waist by midday, and it still looks good even after being scrunched up in the backseat of my car.
The Essentials Tracksuit pants do the same. They’re warm enough for cool air but breathable enough that you’re not overheating by midday. Especially on those early gym runs or morning school drop-offs, they’ve saved me time and effort figuring out what to wear.
It’s Not Flashy — And That’s the Point
There’s something comforting about how… understated the whole thing is. No loud prints. No big labels. Just quality material, clean lines, and that kind of quiet confidence.
When I wore the Essentials Hoodie to a café in Newcastle, someone actually stopped me on the way out and said, “That’s a nice hoodie — is that Fear of God?” I said yeah, but also added that it wasn’t about the name. It just feels right.
The same goes for the tracksuit. It doesn’t shout. It just fits in.
Doesn’t Fall Apart in the Wash (Like So Many Others)
Let’s be honest — most hoodies look great for two washes. Then they sag, shrink, or pill up like an old towel.
Not this one.
The Essentials Hoodie I’ve had for nearly eight months still fits like day one. The cuffs haven’t loosened, the inside lining hasn’t lost its softness, and the colour hasn’t faded — even though I’m not as careful with laundry as I should be. The same goes for the Essentials Tracksuit. No baggy knees, no waistband issues. Still solid.
Hard to Find — So I Grabbed a Backup
I tried to buy a second set — in a different colour — and, of course, it was sold out. Online, in-store, and even some places in Sydney said they’d had them and were cleaned out within days.
Eventually found one from a smaller shop online, paid a little extra, and haven’t looked back. I wear one while the other’s in the wash. Feels like a cheat code for getting dressed.
Final Word: If You Know, You Know
This isn’t about fashion trends or influencer hype. It’s about having two pieces of clothing that just… show up for you. Day after day. City to city. Errands, road trips, dinner with mates, school pick-ups, morning walks in Byron Bay, late night snacks in Darwin — they fit in everywhere.
I didn’t think a hoodie and trackies would become the MVPs of my wardrobe. But here we are.
And honestly? I’m glad they did.
